In this educational module, learners will gain knowledge in the basic fundamental areas of damage control and poly trauma, compartment syndrome, and the use of an intramedullary nailing in fracture fixation.

What you will learn
- Describe the principles of damage control and explain what was the early orthopedic management of polytrauma
- Explain the 4 stages of management for orthopedic damage control
- Define the history and etiology of leg disorders based on case studies
- Explain the pathophysiology and potential complications associated with pressure measurements in leg anatomy
- Understand the biology of fracture healing with an IM Nail (smaller bending loads, Loading Sharing, stress shielding, refracture rare, close)
- Define the mechanical properties of an IM Nail (What is an IM Nail, Type of stability, Retrograde vs Antegrade, Open vs Closed, nail stiffness, purpose of curved nail)
