In this educational module, learners will gain knowledge in the principles of fracture management with a focus on open, diaphyseal, and articular fractures.

Pre-requisites

A basic understanding of trauma related surgery

What you will learn

Explain the classification of open fractures
Evaluate the importance of antibiotics, including appropriate timing and selection
Recall the principles of diaphyseal fracture management for optimal surgical outcome
Comprehend the considerations of the fracture and various assessments for that fracture.
Early management of articular fractures (degree of bone and soft tissue injury, residual malalignment, ligamentous instability, articular surface defects)
